St. John's was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1891 as
a 20-bed hospital, and has grown to a general acute care hospital with 683 acute
care beds, 132 psychiatric beds, 52 skilled nursing beds and 150 long-term beds,
and 3,346 full-time equivalent employees. The hospital is a regional referral
center for 34 counties in southwest Missouri and northern Arkansas.
