St. John's was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1891 as a 20-bed hospital, and has grown to a general acute care hospital with 683 acute care beds, 132 psychiatric beds, 52 skilled nursing beds and 150 long-term beds, and 3,346 full-time equivalent employees. St. John's Hospital - Aurora, located in Aurora, Mo., was founded in 1959, employs 240 and is licensed for 53 beds. The hospital affiliated with St. John's Health System in 2001.
