Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

St. Edward Mercy Medical Center offers a variety of family oriented services to Fort Smith and the surrounding River Valley. In 2006 we were able to offer the areas first level three 25 bed NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). Under the direction of Dr. Victor Coloso, Neonatologist we are able to provide care to many premature and ill infants right here locally. The Neonatal Intensive Care unit is staffed with highly skilled Registered Nurses and Respiratory Therapists certified in Neonatal Resuscitation Program and STABLE by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The skilled staff along with Dr. Coloso cares for infants as premature as 26 weeks gestation. We offer services such as intensive care, respiratory therapy support, state of the art monitoring and ventilation systems, lactation consultation, PICC line placement, physical therapy, speech pathology and spiritual care.

In 2008 neonatal transport was added to our service line. Infants now born outside of St. Edward are able to be transported in to receive care not previously available in the River Valley.
