This might include studying trends in heart disease and asthma to exploring how patients can use simple in-home devices to monitor conditions and relay information electronically to their caregivers. Real-world pilot projects as well primary research and analysis help us know if it will really work in the real world.

Mercy is simultaneously serving patients and creating the future of health care. In one area, a cardiologist is reading an EKG sent electronically from a rural clinic. In another, a pathologist consults with another physician via videoconference. In a third location, a nurse-on-call helps a mother decide the best course of action for her sick child. And still others are researching and developing tomorrow’s health care innovations.
