Mercy “Tops Out” Orthopedic Hospital

The final steel beam was hoisted into its spot.

July 19, about 150 guests and Mercy leaders celebrated the “topping out” of our new orthopedic hospital in south Springfield. Progress continues on the hospital’s construction, and at the event, the final steel beam was placed.

To mark this “topping out,” crews commemorated the event by hoisting an evergreen tree and an American flag with the final beam to the structure. This tradition is to symbolize growth and bring luck to the building as well as recognize the diligence of the construction workers for their care and concern while building it.

The project is right on track. Completion is set for Fall 2013.
