Brandi Volmer, RN, BSN, has been named nurse manager of Mercy Home Health and Hospice in Independence. Volmer has worked as a home health nurse for Mercy for the past five months, and has previous experience as a surgery nurse with Labette Health in Parsons and as the nurse USD 506 Labette County School District. She received her nursing education at Labette Community College and Wichita State University.
Volmer’s duties will include supervision of home care and hospice services. Mercy Home Health and Hospice is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and was recently presented with the Home Care Elite award for the fifth year in a row. The award recognizes the top 25 percent of home care providers in the United States in terms of quality outcomes, quality improvement, patient experience, process measure implementation and financial management.
Mercy Home Health serves a 50-mile radius covering the counties of Montgomery, Wilson, Elk, Chautauqua and Labette. Services provided include in-home nursing care, therapy services, medication administration and “telehealth” remote monitoring, among others. The agency
conducted 6,332 home visits in fiscal year 2013 (July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013).
Mercy Hospice was established in July 2012 and provides round-the-clock care and support to terminally ill patients and their families. Services include nursing care; medication; medical equipment, supplies and therapies; pain management; coordination of short-term hospital stays; respite care for caregivers; coordination of social support services; emotional and spiritual support for patients and loved ones; and bereavement support for families.
Volmer and her fiance, Marty Palmer, reside in Parsons. She has three children and one granddaughter.
