Mercy Hospital Ada's Laboratory Services Receives Accreditation From College of American Pathologists

November 19, 2014

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) awarded accreditation to Mercy Hospital Ada’s laboratory services based on results of a recent on-site inspection.

“We are proud to receive the CAP accreditation,” said Dr. Larry Cartmell, medical director of laboratory services at Mercy Hospital Ada. “We are committed to providing the highest quality laboratory services and testing results to our patients. This national recognition reaffirms our commitment to excellence.”

The CAP accreditation is awarded to facilities that meet the highest standards of quality in laboratory services. The U.S. government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which began in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.

The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. During the on-site visit, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, the safety program and record, and overall management.
