Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a service offered at the Mercy Heart and Vascular Hospital for patients with lung disease and breathing problems. The goal is to educate patients and their families about the value of exercise so their hospitalizations are less frequent and involve shorter stays. Pulmonary rehab patients are referred by their doctors, who stay in touch for reports on their patients’ progress. It is approved by Medicare and the cost is often covered by private health insurance. Classes are held in the Cardiac Rehab Gym, on the sixth floor of the Mercy Heart and Vascular Hospital.

The Pulmonary Rehab team consists of a pulmonary medicine physician, registered respiratory therapists, registered nurses, a registered dietitian and an exercise specialist. The team supervises the exercise regimen and monitors lung patients for their blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels.
