Mercy/Kohl's Injury Prevention

In 2010, the No. 1 cause of injury to children admitted to Mercy's Trauma Center was motor vehicle crashes. Falls were second, followed by burns and ATV-related injuries.

With full-time hospital-based injury prevention coordinators, Mercy's Trauma Services leads the region in providing injury prevention education. Our Mercy/Kohl's Injury Prevention Program is dedicated to reducing the number of  injuries by providing education to families throughout the region.

Mercy is also the proud leader of Safe Kids Springfield. Our dedicated staff travel to area schools, public events and other venues to provide education on topics such as bicycle safety, burn and fire safety, child passenger safety, ATV safety, home safety and motor vehicle/driving safety. Drunken-driving docudramas and mock car crashes are included in the curriculum.
