GME Dental Medicine Didactic Experience

Lecture Series

Management of the Medically Compromised Patient - resident presented topics covering various conditions and their impact on patient management.

Pharmacology - resident presentations on drug classes, actions, interactions, and concerns for dental treatment.

Journal Club - Review of articles on varying topics with discussion and critique.

Case Reviews/Treatment Planning - review and discussion of interesting or complicated cases in round table discussion format

Ethics Discussions – Various topics are examined and debated to enhance ethical decision making

Medical Emergencies – Scenarios are reviewed randomly throughout the year to prepare residents and simulations are staged in the Mercy Health Simulation Laboratory training center

Endo Study Club – Published articles from the American Association of Endodontics are distributed and discussed to enhance the endodontic knowledge of residents

Specialty Lectures – Rotating topics by discipline including biomaterials, CEREC, clear aligner therapy, implants, sleep/airway, etc.)

Research Colloquium

Residents research a topic of their choosing and present it toward the end of the residency year to the hospital during the annual Robert W. Taylor Research Colloquium.
