Joplin Emergency Departments may be impacted by city ordinance

January 20, 2011

The City of Joplin Police Chief, Lane Roberts, has proposed to make over-the-counter pseudo-ephedrine available only through prescription. The drug is a primary ingredient used in the production of methamphetamine. The proposal is intended to reduce the number of meth labs in the area by making pseudo-ephedrine more difficult to obtain. Currently, Missouri is among the highest in the country for meth labs. The impact of the ordinance has been getting mixed reviews from residents.
