To commemorate Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, St. John’s and the American Cancer Society are teaming up to provide colon health education. Visit the 40’ x 15’ inflatable replica of a colon From 1-8 p.m. March 17 in the McAuley Conference Center at St. John’s Hospital, 1235 E. Cherokee in Springfield.
While walking through this unique and interactive exhibit, visitors will be able to view healthy tissue, diseases such as Crohn’s and colitis, polyps, and beginning and advanced colon cancer. Throughout the day there will be nutritionists available to provide information and answer questions, as well as a medical librarian to offer educational assistance.
In conjunction with the colon display, at 6:30 p.m. Mubashir Hassan Khan, MD, with St. John’s Clinic – Gastroenterology and J. Patrick Brooks, MD, with St. John’s Clinic – General and Specialty Surgery will present “Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment” which will be followed by a panel discussion.
