St. Joseph’s Mercy Health System announced today that Dr. James F. Burton has been named the Physician of the Year. Burton is a urologist with Mercy Clinic and has been with St. Joseph’s Mercy for 33 years.
“Dr. Burton is a consummate professional and very deserving of this recognition,” said St. Joseph’s Mercy President Tim Johnsen. “He’s dedicated his entire career to helping others and does so generously and with compassion, while at the same time, with expert clinical skills and knowledge.”
One of the components of the award is patient satisfaction.
“It’s an honor and I’m very excited about that. The thing that’s exciting to me about that is the fact that it’s related to patient satisfaction. Certainly satisfaction has to do with the way a patient is treated here at the office. I feel much of that is related to my office nurse,” Burton said. “I owe a lot to physicians who have gone before me in the clinic and all the physicians here at Mercy Clinic. Also to my partner Dr. Robert Aspell and my other urologic colleagues, including Dr. Phil Woodward and Dr. Charles Wright. A lot goes into patient satisfaction, more than just my input.”
Burton has a long history with St. Joseph’s Mercy and Hot Springs. He was born here in 1947. He went to UAMS in Little Rock and did his residency at LSU. He originally worked with his father, Dr. Frank Burton, a general surgeon at the Burton Eisele Clinic on Whittington Avenue.
“He is a physician in the community that everyone admires and respects and in typical fashion, was extremely humble when notified he was receiving this prestigious award,” Johnsen said. “We are very fortunate that he had chosen to base his practice in Hot Springs for all these years.”
