Mercy Hospital Joplin unveiled its new da Vinci surgical robot at a luncheon on April 13. The robot is the first of its kind in the Joplin area. It will help provide new surgical options for patients and allow them to be treated here at home. Patients experience a shorter recovery time through less-invasive surgery. The robotic surgical system provides surgeons with better vision, precision and control.

Community leaders from around the area were invited to attend the event and see the new robot in person. Dr. Robert Dodson, trauma director / colon and rectal surgeon, was on hand to introduce the new robot and give demonstrations. After the luncheon, attendees were invited to take their turn at the controls of the new machine.
