Making Progress

May 23, 2011

In the past few hours we’ve made the following progress:

  • A phone number has been established as a contact point for all Mercy co-workers in the Joplin area: 1-888-98-MERCY (63729). We are asking all Joplin-area Mercy co-workers to call into the number as a way to account for their safety and needs, and to determine the best way to share information with them in the days ahead.
  • For the time being, Mercy co-workers in the Joplin area should report for work only if you have been asked specifically to come in.
  • We have heard that medical records have been found around the community. We are asking anyone who has found medical records or information that appears to be related to patient care to hold these documents, as we determine a process for collecting them. Please respect the privacy of any records you may have, and we will advise about the process for returning them to Mercy shortly.
  • We continue to hear that our co-workers, friends and supporters want to support Mercy in Joplin through donations. We are working to make these donations possible online through This opportunity should be available later today; please check the home page of for information on how to give.
  • Please know that Mercy remains committed to the Joplin community, both in the short-term and long-term. We are evaluating interim approaches to providing health care services, and we will be planning for the future as soon as we address more immediate needs.
