The American Diabetes Association recently recertified Mercy's diabetic self-management education program for meeting its national standards for providing quality diabetes education to patients. To earn this distinction, Mercy has met the National Standards for Diabetes Self Management Education. Many aspects of the program are reviewed to ensure that specific topics are included in the curriculum, credentialed educators lead the program and that continuing education is a priority for the staff.
“This is a testimony to great dedicated co-workers and leadership, including our medical staff, which place diabetic education and care at the forefront for our patients and community,” said Linda Knodel, chief nursing officer of Mercy Health System.
The ADA renewal process is completed every four years. Reports are reviewed on an annual basis. This recognition covers diabetes education programs in Springfield, Aurora, Cassville and Berryville, Ark.
