About 21,990 new cases of ovarian cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year in the United States. In Springfield, local hospitals and support groups are trying to help women catch the disease in its early stages and decide how to treat it. Dr. Jay Carlson, Mercy physician, is the region’s only gynecologial oncologist.
