On Wednesday, Oct. 26, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will reveal the new home of a St. John’s Mercy co-worker's family. The show is in Joplin this week rebuilding seven homes in seven days, including Kyle and Jill Howard’s home.
Jill, who is a St. John’s Mercy co-worker, was at home with her four sons, Keenan, Konnor, Korbin and Kaleb, when the EF5 tornado struck. Huddled in a closet, a table or door landed on top of them, deflecting debris and ultimately saving their lives.
Jill’s husband Kyle is a Joplin fireman and was at the fire station during the storm. While worrying if his wife and four children had made it out alive, he made his way home through the rubble, rescuing trapped victims and tending to the injured.
The Howard’s home was completely destroyed. See the photos of their home before and after the tornado.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is scheduled to air its 200th episode later this season on ABC. To get a sneak peek of the Howards and a live reveal of their new home, tune into ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Wednesday Oct. 26 from 7 to 9 a.m. CST.
Hundreds of co-workers have volunteered for the rebuild and 60 Mercy nurses have staffed the show’s medical tent which has been used by crew and volunteers.
