Mercy to Host Biggest Ever 'Loser'

January 24, 2012

Danny Cahill before and after.

Danny Cahill, winner of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” competition, will share his inspirational story to kick off Mercy Health for Life’s annual weight loss challenge event Monday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m. at the Independence High School auditorium.

Cahill was a contestant on Season 8 of “The Biggest Loser” titled “Second Chances.” In just under seven months on the show, he lost 239 pounds, or 56 percent of his total body weight. He holds the title for the highest percentage of weight loss in the show’s history, as well as the record for the most consecutive weeks (seven) with double-digit weight loss. He also was the first contestant to lose more than 200 pounds before the show’s finale, and he achieved all of this in the shortest season in the history of the show.

Cahill has since gone on to inspire many others in their weight loss journeys as he shares his story worldwide.

“My speech isn’t simply a speech,” says Cahill. “It is an experience that the listener takes with them and will hold in their heart. Hundreds of emails and letters come to me every month telling me of their success stories of ‘losing their quit’ after hearing me speak.

“I know that the purpose of my journey on The Biggest Loser is for much more than just me; it is a purpose to bring hope to others that it is never too late to change the course of their lives.”

Cahill’s presentation will launch Health for Life’s annual weight loss challenge event, which this year is designated as a “Family & Friends” event, intended to help whole families and groups of friends add activity to their lives and improve their health together.

The six-week challenge begins Jan. 30, and participants may continue to register and weigh in until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31. All participants are invited to join weekly one-hour fitness activities and participate in weekly weigh-ins. T-shirts and additional education are provided to all participants. Cost is $50 for the first participant and $20 for each additional family member or friend.

Cahill’s presentation is free and open to the public. Reserved seating is available, and more information on the event or the weight loss challenge may be obtained by calling Health for Life at 620-331-7250. More information on Cahill is available at
