SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—Mercy is pleased to welcome five physicians from Orthopaedic Specialists of Springfield (OSS) who are joining our 21 existing orthopedic specialists. The addition of their expertise creates the region’s largest and most comprehensive orthopedic group in the region, with orthopedic service in Springfield, Branson, Joplin, Lebanon and Rolla.
Dr. Michael B. Grillot and Dr. J. Scott Swango will be based in Springfield, and as hand surgeons, will also provide additional orthopedic coverage in Joplin and in the region. Dr. Thomas D. McClain, Dr. Paul M. Olive, and Dr. David B. Rogers will be based in Joplin.
“As we continue to expand our network of comprehensive specialists in southwest Missouri, these doctors bring tremendous experience to Mercy Springfield and Mercy Joplin,” said David Globig, vice president of Operations at Mercy Hospital Springfield. “Throughout this transition, Mercy and this group of doctors will be working to ensure that all former and current patients continue to receive exceptional medical care.”
Mercy has also worked with other staff members at OSS to place them in new positions. About half the OSS staff applied for new jobs with Mercy, and 20 begin that work on Tuesday. Mercy welcomes additional applications from OSS co-workers.
Mercy is also acquiring the former OSS building near the intersection of Battlefield and National in Springfield. The 77,000 square foot property includes a surgery center, an imaging center and physician office space. “We’re in the process of evaluating the best use for that property,” said Globig.
The addition of the five surgeons from OSS illustrates Mercy’s commitment to exceptional orthopedic care. The new Mercy Orthopedic Hospital Springfield, located at Highway 65 and Evans Road, is expected to open in the fall of 2013. The 200,000 square-foot facility will feature 10 operating rooms, 48 patient beds and has an estimated price tag of $116 million.
