WASHINGTON, Mo. – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness and encourage women to have their annual mammograms, Mercy Washington will host a ladies’ night out event from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, in Mercy Medical Building North, 851 E. Fifth St. in Washington.
“Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer,” said Debbie Vietmeier, RN, BSN, Mercy’s Breast Health Nurse Navigator. “During October, we remind women over 40 years old to have their annual mammogram. If you can’t get it done now, at least call the appointment center this month and set up a time that does work for you in a calendar month that you’ll remember from year to year. Maybe it’s your birthday month, or the birthday month of someone you love who was touched by cancer. It’s important to set a date and make the commitment.”
In addition to extended mammogram hours, information about women’s health issues will be available. Physicians and health care professionals specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, weight loss surgery, family medicine and plastic surgery will be available to answer health questions.
All are welcome. Guests don’t have to have a mammogram screening to attend. Registration is needed only to schedule a mammogram during the event. To schedule a mammogram, call 636-239-8265 and select “0.” Mammogram participants will receive a free 10-minute chair massage at the event. Openings for mammogram screenings are limited.
Mercy also offers uninsured and underinsured women free mammograms at special times during the year. To learn more, call toll free 1-877-569-6400.
