Gilbert Hoffman,

Mercy's newly named chief information officer.

ST. LOUIS, Mo.  – Named by ComputerWorld magazine as one of the top 100 chief information officers in the U.S., Gilbert Hoffman joins Mercy as vice president and chief information officer (CIO).

“Gil is a hands-on innovator who has been instrumental in growing Maritz into a company that does business with 30 of the top 50 Fortune 500 companies,” said Lynn Britton, president and CEO of Mercy. “Besides vast IT experience, Gil has an uncanny ability to see the big picture, map out the strategy from beginning to end and hit the mark. For an innovative health care organization, he will be a great Mercy fit.”

With Maritz since 1973, Hoffman has led the company’s information technology team for more than a decade and provided worldwide solutions for the St. Louis-based company’s travel, market research and incentive loyalty programs. He has also leveraged technology to support internal operations such as supply chain, human resources, finance and marketing.

Under Hoffman’s leadership, Maritz has been named by ComputerWorld magazine as one of the “100 Best IT Places to Work,” and by InformationWeek for “Most Innovative Use of IT” for 12 consecutive years.

Hoffman, whose start date is Nov. 1, plans to further Mercy’s innovation already in place. Mercy was recently named a “Most Wired” health care organization and is among only 7 percent of hospitals nationwide with an integrated electronic health record sophisticated enough to access and share medical records among multiple Mercy facilities in a four-state area.

“Industry leading IT is critical to an organization that serves more than 3 million people and spans four states,” said Hoffman, who succeeds former Mercy CIO Will Showalter. “Connectivity is critical in providing better patient care. I am excited to serve and lead Mercy’s IT.”

Mercy is the sixth largest Catholic health care system in the U.S. and serves more than 3 million people annually. Mercy includes 31 hospitals, more than 300 outpatient facilities, 38,000 co-workers and 1,700 integrated physicians in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Mercy also has outreach ministries in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. For more about Mercy, visit www.mercy.net.
