ST. LOUIS - Deidre Daniels, winner of Y98’s $10,000 Shopping Spree, was joined by her son Christopher Williams, 11, on Monday afternoon to deliver gifts that she purchased to donate to Mercy Children’s Hospital.

When she was a named a finalist, Deidre scouted stores and made a list of items she needed.  The idea to spend some of the money on games and toys for a hospital came from Christopher. “I like to give to others,” he said.

Deidre said Christopher has always been a very caring child, even helping care for his grandfather at home on hospice earlier this year. She recalled the time when she was packing canned goods for less fortunate and explained it to Christopher. “He came out with his own snacks and wanted to give those to kids so others could have what he had.”

Both of Deidre’s parents have been cared for by Mercy through the years so when it came time to select the hospital, Mercy Children’s was the natural choice.

“It always touches my heart when kids want to share their gifts with others,” said Alberta Lee, child life manager at Mercy Children’s.
