Independence (April 19, 2013) — In conjunction with the launch of its Mercy Pain Management Clinic, Mercy Hospital Independence will offer an educational lunch-and-learn presentation, “Your Pain Has Met Its Match,” by David Tonkin, MD, pain management specialist.
The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Empson Conference Center on the lower level of Mercy Clinic Primary Care, 800 W. Laurel. The event is free and open to the community and a light lunch will be provided. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 620-332-3248.
Dr. Tonkin will present information on the latest solutions for managing chronic pain associated with a variety of ailments, such as arthritis, osteoarthritis, cancer, headaches, spine, joints and much more.
Affiliated with Mercy Clinic Joplin, Dr. Tonkin treats a variety of complex and chronic pain conditions using both surgical and non-surgical treatment solutions. He offers a patient clinic and performs procedures at Mercy on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.
Dr. Tonkin is a board-certified anesthesiologist and completed a fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Mich. He received his medical degree from American University of the Caribbean and completed residencies at the Department of Family Practice, West Virginia University – Martinsburg; the Department of Family Practice, University of Pittsburg Medical Center; and the Department of Anesthesia, West Penn Hospital.
He also offers clinics at Mercy facilities in Fort Scott, Joplin and Carthage, Mo.
