Students ages 9 to 16 attended Mercy Hospital Jefferson’s very popular, annual Super Sitter Seminar on Friday, July 12. This event included 108 registered with a waiting list of 5. Students were welcomed by 8 ½ month old twin boys and ask to count how many times they placed a variety of objects in their mouths in a two minute period , while they were also asked to listen to instructions by a presentor. Students quickly learned how important it is to stay focused on the children in their care, and not to let other things distract them from keeping the children safe, at all times.
Educational segments included Fire Safety by Rowdy Fadler with the Crystal City Fire Department, First Aid and a child CPR demonstration by Ken Strathmann, Paramedic with Joachim Plattin Ambulance District, and Infant Care by Amy Schwent RN, Clinical Educator for Mercy Hospital Jefferson. The final segment, Age Appropriate Activities, covered a variety of activities baby sitters can use to entertain children in their care based on the childs age.
All attendees received a take home folder that included hand outs on the topics presented in the class, a gift, a Super Sitter business card and Certificate of Completion. Five names were drawn for attendance prizes with each one receiving a Super Sitter baby sitting bag filled with a large variety of items to entertain children from infants to 12 years of age.
