Joplin Emergency Department

Mercy Hospital Joplin Emergency Department recently won the 4-Star Award from Professional Research Consultants, Inc (PRC). This designation is given annually to healthcare facilities that score in the top twenty-five percent of PRC’s national client database for the prior calendar year. More specifically, it is further defined as those facilities in the top twenty-five percent that scored between the 75th and 89th percentiles. It is based on the percentage of patients who rate the facility “Excellent” for Overall Quality of Care.

Mercy Emergency Department was awarded this honor for its commitment to excellence in patient care. Patients are surveyed about their experience allowing them to express both criticism and praise for their healthcare experience. To qualify for an award a hospital must have been caring for patients during the calendar year of 2011 and have a minimum of three months of visits totaling at least 50 patient interviews.

Mercy Emergency and Trauma Director Tony Mitchell said, “It is an honor, but not a surprise that we received the 4-Star Award. Our whole staff strives to show excellence as well as compassion. From the receptionist at the front desk, to the nurses and physicians who treat our patients, it takes the whole team to make this happen. I am proud that over the course of the last two years, we have been in four different facilities, all the while caring for the patients who came through our doors, trusting us when they needed help. We have a great team and I couldn’t be prouder!”
