Being a “tween” means life is full of changes, and that can be frustrating, scary and wonderful. To help girls make sense of it all, Mercy Hospital Lebanon is presenting a free forum called “Just B’tween Us Girls.” It’s set for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Cowan Civic Center, 500 E. Elm St. in Lebanon.
Mercy pediatrician Dr. Karen Hopkins, OB/GYN Dr. Hussain Ali and psychologist Shannon P. Dark will present information on what girls and the adult women in their lives can expect during puberty. The panel will also take questions. The program is for girls ages eight to 12 and their mothers or female caregivers. To make sure the girls are comfortable with the conversation, this is a female-only event.
“I took my daughter to this very event about five years ago, and it was a great way to start a discussion,” said Dr. Hopkins. “We want girls to feel comfortable with the changes that are occurring with their bodies. We’ll give them detailed information and also advice for taking care of themselves and handling peer pressure.”
Along with all the great facts, there will be time for fun, too. The event includes a door prize sign-up, snacks, a photo booth and fashion show. The event is free, but RSVPs are appreciated. Just call (417) 533-6072.
