Mercy co-workers in Lebanon have another reason to cheer on the Tournament of Roses Parade next year, despite being more than 1,600 miles away.
In honor of lives and eyesight saved by organ and tissue donation, Mercy Hospital Lebanon president Mike Gillen signed a vial Monday, Nov. 11, that will hold a rose on the Donate Life Float in the 2014 Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif.
“We are very honored to participate in this effort to increase awareness to the importance of organ donation,” said Gillen. “To do this in conjunction with the Parade of Roses is a great way to gain national attention to an issue affecting many Americans.”
Since 2004, the Donate Life Rose Parade Float has served as a memorial to organ and tissue donors and a platform for donor families, living donors and transplant recipients to inspire the world to save and heal those in need through the gift of life. This year’s theme is “Light Up the World.” To learn more, visit http://www.donatelifefloat.org.
