HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (December 4, 2013) – The  Walmart Foundation provided a $37,000 grant to Mercy Hospital Hot Springs’ Mercy Senior Care department through the Foundation’s State Giving Program.

The grant was used to purchase a new delivery vehicle for the Meals on Wheels program. This will help ensure the delivery of daily meals throughout Garland County.

“The grant is a blessing, as it strengthens our ability to continue providing daily nutrition to Garland County seniors, many of whom could suffer from food insecurity and hunger without our Meals on Wheels services,” said Diane Harry, Mercy Hospital Senior Services Director. “In addition, their delivery person is more than likely the only person they see every day, monitoring their well being.”

“At the Walmart Foundation, we understand that organizations such as Mercy Hospital Hot Springs are essential to building stronger communities.  They share our values and are committed to helping those in need in the communities we serve,” said Chris Neeley, Walmart Public Affairs Director. “Through this grant, we are hopeful that residents in this state will feel a positive effect, and through that effect our impact will be expanded.”

For more than 125 years, Mercy in Hot Springs has served the healthcare needs of Hot Springs and surrounding communities. Mercy Hospital Hot Springs is a 282 bed full-service hospital accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, providing an emergency department with a Level 2 Trauma Center designation and a comprehensive range of medical services.

Mercy Hospital Hot Springs also offers two dedicated senior centers in Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village. Both services are free to seniors age 60 and older and provide nutritious meals and fun events throughout the week. Meals on Wheels services are also available for seniors around the area.
