In keeping with Mercy Fort Smith’s goal to attract more physicians to the community, Mercy Clinic has started construction on its' third new primary care clinic in less than three years.
The $5 million Mercy Clinic Free Ferry will be located on the southwest corner of Free Ferry and Waldron Roads. The 13,650 square foot clinic will have space for 8-10 physicians with 24 exam rooms and onsite lab and imaging services. In addition, there will be room for future expansion if necessary.
Mercy Clinic opened a similar clinic on Dallas Street in November 2012 and another one is currently under construction on Cliff Drive.
“We’ve been underserved in this area for a long time and we’re really seeing patients take advantage of the added resources,” said Matt Keep, Mercy Clinic COO, “In the last year we’ve seen a 26% increase in primary care volume and we attribute that directly to the fact that we’ve brought more doctors to the community.”
The new clinic will be wired with Mercy’s electronic health record allowing for the seamless sharing of medical records between all Mercy locations. In addition, it will be equipped for telehealth services as those become available in our community.
The new clinic is expected to open in October 2014. It is expected to create an estimated 35 new jobs for nursing and support staff.
