Mercy Hospital Fort Scott Hosts Diabetes Support Group

July 9, 2014

The public is invited to Mercy’s Diabetes Support Group on Monday, July 21 at 6 p.m. in McAuley Conference Room at Mercy Hospital Fort Scott. The session topic is Diabetes and Exercise – Get Moving.

According to Alice Helton, Mercy R.N. and Certified Diabetes Educator, exercise is key to lifetime management of diabetes. It is good for everyone to exercise but especially important to help control blood glucose levels and control weight.

Physical activity benefits include:

  • building muscle and bone strength
  • lowering blood pressure
  • improving circulation
  • decreasing cardiac complications
  • boosting energy and taming stress and helping one relax

The American Heart Association recommends a minimum of 150 minutes of exercise a week. Come learn more about exercise…types, precautions and tips…for a successful exercise program.

No appointment or registration is required to attend the Diabetes Support Group.

Future meeting dates for the support group are Sept.15, and Nov. 17.
