ST. LOUIS – Losing a loved one is difficult at any age, but for kids who don’t completely understand death it often can be worse. Parents might also struggle with how to help. For this reason, Mercy Kids is offering a new, free grief support group with emphasis on the entire family whose needs to grieve and adjust are highly important.
Healing Hearts, led by a child life specialist and chaplain trained in grief support, offers support for children (ages 4-18) and families as they learn coping skills to help navigate their journey of grief.
When facing the loss of a loved one, young people especially need support as they face higher risk for anxiety, depression, anger, withdrawal and other behavior problems. The support of other families going through similar emotions and changes can help children, teens and adults acknowledge and address the physical, emotional and spiritual challenges they are experiencing
The free monthly group will serve dinner; advanced registration is required. Families may sign up for one or multiple months by clicking here. Groups will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. in the vonGontard Conference Center on the Mercy Hospital St. Louis/Mercy Children’s Hospital campus.
