Mercy Hospital Independence President Dave Steinmann has announced the addition of Melinda Allen, M.D., as medical director for the hospital’s Emergency Department.
A native of southeast Kansas, Dr. Allen has practiced emergency medicine in Coffeyville since 2008 and has previous experience as an ER physician at Mercy Hospital Independence and as a family practice provider at Jane Phillips Caney Rural Health Clinic.
Dr. Allen received her undergraduate education at Texas A&M University in College Station and earned her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. She completed both family practice and rural residency programs in Tulsa and Ramona, Oklahoma, respectively, through the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
She and her husband, Judge F. William Cullins, also a southeast Kansas native, reside in Caney.
“I couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Dr. Allen to our medical staff,” Steinmann said. “She brings a wealth of experience, high-level skill and genuine enthusiasm to this position, and I know she will be a tremendous asset to our team.”
