The expression on Cathy Johnson’s face while she rang the celebration bell said it all; “my treatment is complete.”
Johnson is the first patient at Mercy Cancer Care Unit of Hope to ring the new bell as a symbol that cancer infusion therapy is finished.
The bell was a donation by a former cancer patient at the unit as a way to celebrate life and mark the culmination of a difficult journey.
Johnson was diagnosed with colorectal cancer on March 14, 2014. Following surgery and 14 treatments, she’s relieved that she can get back to doing the things she loves.
“This experience has helped me realize that life is too short,” she said. “Don’t put off anything you want to do. Enjoy every minute.”
She looks forward to spending more time with her family, regaining her strength and living to her fullest potential.
