Mercy to Host Free Varicose Vein Event in St. Robert

February 24, 2015

Do you have varicose veins? While common, the enlarged veins can become very painful and even lead to other health problems.

That’s why Dr. Karen Tabb plans to speak on Thursday, March 5, about Mercy Clinic General Surgery – Lebanon’s new outpatient vein procedure. The free event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hampton Inn located at 103 St. Robert Boulevard.

“Most patients see positive results within two to six weeks,” said Dr. Tabb, who performs the minimally invasive procedure. It starts with an ultrasound to look for incompetent or dilated veins. “Then we prep the leg and insert a catheter to collapse and close the enlarged leg veins in patients with varicose veins and Chronic Venous Insufficiency, a condition where the veins cannot pump enough blood to the heart.”

From there, the tissue around the vein is injected with numbing medication. The procedure takes between 30-45 minutes. “Before this, we used vein stripping or other big surgeries,” said Dr. Tabb.

Seating is limited for the March 5 event. Please RSVP by March 2. Call (417) 533-6780 to make a reservation. Snacks will be provided.
