Runners, joggers, walkers and families in the Rolla region are invited to Mercy’s Color Me Cancer Free 5K color run/walk on Saturday, May 9.

Early registration has begun and the sooner you sign up, the more you’ll save. The cost to register on or before Thursday, April 30, is $25 for individuals or $45 for mother/daughter combos, and includes a t-shirt and packet. After April 30, registration will cost $30 for individuals and $55 for mother/daughter combos. Discounted rates are available.

The run/walk starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Rolla Lion’s Club Park Pavilion #1, located on U.S. Highway 63 South. Same-day registration begins at 8 a.m. Early packet pickup will run from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, May 8, inside the first floor community room of Mercy’s Rolla clinic.

Proceeds from the event will go to Relay for Life of Phelps County for cancer research. It will also support the Hope Lodge, the Road to Recovery program, the Look Good, Feel Good program and the Reach to Recovery program. “From lodging and transportation to beauty help, the money we raise at this event will provide tremendous support for patients battling cancer,” organizer Michelle Daniels said. “It’s an amazing cause and we can’t wait to see everyone there.”

An awards ceremony will be held shortly after the May 9 event. It will honor top male and female participants, the top three finishers in each age division, the top three mother/daughter teams, top two teams of six and the most spirited team of six.

Online registration for the event is available here. Participants who sign up before April 1 will receive a packet of color to throw at the finish line celebration. Forms can also be mailed to Mercy Clinic Pediatrics Attn: Gina Maben 1605 Martin Springs Drive Suite 250 Rolla, Mo., 65401. Make all checks out to “ACS” or American Cancer Society.  This race will be chip timed and is part of the 2015 Rolla Multisport Club Race Series.

“As a community, we can come together, promote healthy family activities, raise money, celebrate and finish the fight against cancer,” organizer Gina Maben said.
