Mercy Signature Service Noted by Patient

The following letter is from a patient at Mercy Hospital Fort Scott.

"The purpose of this letter is to personally express my and my wife’s appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Wan-Lin Horng and the general surgery staff for the superb care that I received as a Mercy patient in March. During that time, I underwent a rather complex surgery and I just wanted to let you know that my experience as a patient was nothing short of exceptional.

I also want to commend Dr. Horng and the general surgery staff for their exemplary professionalism, world-class expertise, and high quality post-operative patient care. Admittedly, I am not a medical professional, but I did spend 28 years in the military, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. I owned and operated my own successful financial planning business and I now hold a General Aviation pilot’s license – so I can identify professionalism, technical competence and quality client (patient) care when I see it. In each of those critical areas the Mercy general surgery staff excel and are clearly second to none. My exceptional surgery and recovery experience was due to Dr. Horng and each of the nurses’ individual efforts to make my stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. This was clearly the overriding intention of each of the nurses who cared for me.

The bottom line is not only was the surgery conducted with flawless skill by Dr. Horng, but the road to recovery overseen by the nursing staff made my stay there not only comfortable, but even in the moments of discomfort and pain, they each went way beyond what I would believe to be the “norm” in mitigating those moments. You can issue drugs, change the bed sheets, and tote a bedpan, but the greatest aid to a comfortable and speedy recovery is the heartfelt concern and attention displayed by the nurses. In this regard, the surgery and nursing staff are absolutely the BEST. Please pass on our thanks for all they did for us."
