CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. (August 5, 2015) – From doctors’ visits to discharges, appointments and more, the Patient Transportation Department at Mercy Jefferson makes hundreds of trips each month, providing door-to-door service for area patients in need of a ride.
But last month the drivers did something they never had before.
“Our final tally for the month of July was 1,087,” said Shannon Drennen, manager of transportation. “In the 12 years I’ve been here, this is the only month that we hit 1,000 trips.”
The milestone number has always been a goal for the department she said, and they passed 900 many times, but they never cracked the four-digit threshold, until now.
“As more people find out about the service, and Mercy continues to attract new physicians, we have seen our numbers getting stronger,” Drennen said. “I have to credit our drivers who provide service with a smile and really care about the people they serve.”
Patient transportation is provided in wheelchair equipped vans and two cars to provide safe and reliable service. Transportation is available to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for imaging, physical therapy and rehab, one-day surgery, cancer treatment, wound care, behavioral health services, and any Mercy Clinic physician office visit.
