After the success of last year’s Mercy Kickoff Classic football game between rivals Ada High School and Ardmore High School, Mercy will be back on the field to sponsor the annual event again this September.
Mercy will serve a team meal to the Ada Cougars football team the week before the game, and will host a tailgate event for Mercy co-workers and families a few hours before the game on Sept. 4.
Last year, Mercy made an investment to support the rivalry game for both Ada and Ardmore, which are home to Mercy hospitals and clinics. Although Ardmore High School won the game last year, the decades-long rivalry continues this year and it’s anyone’s game to win.
“We are so excited to host the Mercy Kickoff Classic again this year,” said Todd Essary, director of the Mercy Health Foundation Ada. “As the second largest employer in town, we have a responsibility to support our community through events like this football game. We hope the event not only builds excitement and support for the football team, but also builds awareness that Mercy is committed to providing the very best health care possible.”
Last year, the Advanced Leadership Class at Ada High School and the Student Council at Ardmore High School sold game T-shirts for the Mercy Kickoff Classic. The students in Ada raised $1,600 that they donated to purchase care packages for new patients diagnosed with cancer who are receiving treatment at Mercy Hospital Ada. The group will conduct another fundraiser this year to once again purchase the care packages.
Mark your calendar now to attend this year’s Mercy Kickoff Classic at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 at Norris Field in Ada. To make a contribution to the cancer care packages, please contact Todd Essary at 580-421-1403 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
