OKLAHOMA CITY – Growing up working in his father’s veterinary clinic, Dr. Todd Mollet always knew he wanted to practice medicine — either on humans or their furry friends. He opted for humans and enrolled in medical school.
“My father loved veterinary dermatology and that sparked my interest in dermatology,” he said. “As an undergraduate, I shadowed a dermatologist and from then on knew that I wanted to treat patients with skin cancer and other skin issues.”
He recently joined Mercy Clinic and is Mercy’s only skin cancer surgeon in Oklahoma. He is also one of only a few fellowship-trained skin cancer surgeons in Oklahoma.
In this new role, Mollet is excited to offer the newest skin cancer and dermatology treatments to patients, including a special staining technique called MART-1 when treating superficial melanoma with Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is a microscopically controlled type of surgery to treat common forms of skin cancer.
“I believe that an excellent bedside manner, extensive medical knowledge and a meticulous surgical technique are the most important qualities in a top-tier dermatologic surgeon and dermatologist,” said Mollet. “I treat every cancer like it is on my own skin. If I need to spend an extra five minutes to give a patient the best outcome or scar possible, I will spend that extra five minutes every time.”
The Oklahoma native said he cares for his patients as if they are members of his family.
“I want to know them personally so I can offer them the best, personalized care,” he said. “I only make recommendations I would make to my own family.”
Mollet received his medical degree and completed his internship in internal medicine and residency in dermatology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. He completed his fellowship in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
In his spare time, he enjoys sports, outdoor activities at his family’s farm in western Oklahoma and spending time with his family. He is married with a 3-year-old son.
