A pediatric nurse practitioner, who was raised in Mountain Grove, Missouri, has come home. After more than a decade working with Mercy Kids, MarLisa McGowan, PNP, has joined Mercy Clinic Family Medicine – Mountain Grove.
“My dream all along was to further my education and then get closer to home and practice here,” McGowan said. In August, she joined Dr. David Barbe and Eloise Unger, NP, after serving 11 years as a nurse in Mercy Hospital Springfield’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
McGowan, a graduate of Chamberlain College of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri, received her Master of Science in Nursing, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
“When I decided to go back to school, I chose to stay in pediatrics,” she said. “That’s where my heart is, and I felt there was a huge need in Mountain Grove and the surrounding areas. Before I joined this clinic, there wasn’t a pediatric specialist clinic within a 60-mile radius.”
McGowan and her husband, who live on a family cattle farm in Mountain Grove, have two children of their own – Clayton, 11, and McKenna, 8 – who have grown up in a community McGowan has loved and cherished for years.
“We spend a lot of time kayaking, hiking and fishing,” she said. “And the kids love to hunt, so we’re avid hunters. My biggest passion, outside of work, is working out. I make that a priority.”
McGowan is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. She can care for patients from birth to age 21 at Mercy Clinic Family Medicine – Mountain Grove, which is located at 120 W. 16th Street, and looks forward to rekindling relationships with her neighbors.
“One of the blessings about being local is knowing a lot of people in the community,” McGowan said. “It’s incredible being able to help families and friends that I know, and reaching out to meet those that I’m so excited to get to know.”
