Children’s car and booster seats are designed specifically to protect babies, toddlers and children from injury or death in case of an accident, yet four out of five car seats are improperly installed.
It’s a statistic Mercy St. Francis Hospital is hoping to change, with the help of free car seat checks from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11. During that time, parents who call 417-934-7000 can schedule an appointment with a certified child passenger seat technician.
“It’s impossible to predict what drivers around you might do, or how the weather can impact your drive,” said Laveeda Lilly, lead environmental services technician at Mercy. “So the best way to protect kids is to put them in a proper car seat for their age and size and use those seats correctly on every trip.”
Certified child passenger seat technicians will offer personalized, up-to-date information about safety guidelines and laws regarding child passengers during the free safety checks. They will also help parents with car seat installations as well as offer consultations on booster seat and front seat safety.
Parents who utilize the free car seat checks will also be able to enter a drawing for a new, free car seat.
