Frieda Carter was recently recognized by the Hospital Volunteers of Oklahoma as a 2015 Volunteer With Spirit at the Oklahoma Hospital Association’s Hospital Volunteer Day on Nov. 4.
“Frieda is a blessing to our auxiliary, Mercy co-workers and the patients we serve,” said Todd Essary, director of the Mercy Health Foundation and Auxiliary Services at Mercy Hospital Ada. “She keeps us organized and is always willing to take on whatever needs to be done. She exemplifies the spirit of Mercy through her positive attitude and willingness to serve in whatever way needed.”
The award was given to hospital volunteers who possess the spirit of service, have a passion for the work they do for their organization and go above and beyond in everything they do.
Carter began volunteering at Mercy Hospital Ada (formerly Valley View Regional Hospital) in 2010 and has volunteered more than 8,000 hours. Prior to serving in the auxiliary, Carter volunteered at Hillcrest Hospital and Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Carter spends most of her volunteer hours at Mercy working in the gift shop. When she isn’t at the hospital volunteering or attending her great-grandkids’ activities, you might find her making pillows for the hospital’s surgical patients. She has made more than 1,000 pillows in the last year for Mercy patients.
