First Charles E. Thoele Physician Leadership Award Presented

ST. LOUIS - Dr. David Meiners was recently awarded the inaugural Charles E. Thoele Physician Leadership Award. Dr. Meiners is Mercy Hospital St. Louis’ chair of surgery, former division chief of general surgery and surgery department chair for Mercy Clinic St. Louis. 

“It’s very gratifying to recognize Dr. Meiners with the first Charles E. Thoele Physician Leadership Award,” said Jeff Johnston, Mercy Hospital St. Louis president. “He's the utmost professional and exemplifies all the criteria of the award, including his commitment to Mercy’s mission and values, long-time leadership, compassionate care, respect for colleagues, co-workers and patients, and commitment to continuously looking for ways to improve care processes – among his many other fine qualities.”

The award will be given annually to honor Thoele, former CEO of Mercy Hospital St. Louis, long-time member and former chair of both the Mercy Health Ministry and Mercy Hospital St. Louis Board of Directors, for his decades of service and vision regarding the importance of physician input into strategy and operational decisions. Thoele continues to serve on the Mercy Health Ministry Board
