Mercy Offers Free Diabetes Education Support Groups

January 4, 2016

Courses run Jan. 30 to June 15

Nearly 30 million people in the United States have diabetes. As that number climbs, so does the importance of knowing how to manage the chronic disease.

In the New Year, Mercy Hospital Aurora is once again offering monthly, one-hour educational support groups focusing on trends and topics in diabetes. The free, interactive presentations  will be held the third Wednesday of each month, starting on Jan. 20.

“We want to give diabetics a place to learn about advancement in the management and treatment of this disease,” said Mercy dietitian Donna Medlin. “If you’re at risk of having diabetes, want to learn more about managing diabetes or you’re just committed to making healthy lifestyle choices, we encourage you to sign up.”

Each support group will begin with an educational presentation, followed by networking and group participation. The courses will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. in the private dining room at Mercy Hospital Aurora, located at 500 S. Porter Avenue, on the following dates:

  • January 20
  • February 17
  • March 16
  • April 20
  • May 18
  • June 15
