OKLAHOMA CITY – Christina Helms is somewhat of a pioneer. Although she’s the first in her family to work in the medical field, Helms says she’s never pictured doing anything else.
“Ever since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help patients,” she said. “This is where I feel I’m meant to be.”
Now a board-certified physician assistant, Helms joins Mercy Clinic Primary Care – North May with more than five years experience in family practice and internal medicine. Helms got her start in 2005, when she graduated from Cameron University in Lawton with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She went on to receive her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and previously worked in rural family medicine in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
“The biggest compliment I ever received was from a patient who said I always take the time to listen,” she said. “I strive to provide an open line of communication, so my patients can communicate freely with me and walk away understanding their diagnosis and treatment plan.”
In her free time, Helms enjoys playing basketball, golf and running. Helms says one of her many goals is to run a half marathon in every state.
