Familiar Face Becomes Permanent General Surgeon at Mercy

March 4, 2016

Dr. Joe Padilla knew he was onto something when he joined the general surgery team at Mercy Hospital Lebanon.

“Simply put, the patients here are incredible,” said the Arkansas native. He has worked with Mercy for nearly a decade of his nearly 30-year career in general surgery. “The majority of that time I’ve been in Arkansas; when I came to Lebanon last year, it just clicked.”

And the feelings are mutual. The board-certified general surgeon joins Dr. Karen Tabb full time at Mercy Clinic General Surgery – Lebanon, located at 120 Hospital Drive; together, they will provide a variety of services, such as breast, gallstone and hernia surgeries, as well as wound care and colonoscopies, and more.

“We’re so excited to have Dr. Padilla’s expertise on our general surgery team,” said Dave Steinmann, administrator at Mercy Hospital Lebanon. “He has already built quite a following in recent months, and we’re proud of the relationship he has built with patients and co-workers. You can’t beat the knowledge and energy he brings.”

Dr. Padilla grew up in a loving family and credits his father for being his greatest inspiration. “We lived in Puerto Rico, but when my dad did his residency with the VA (Veterans Affairs), I spent some time in the states. I went to college at St. Louis University, and after medical school I joined the U.S. Army Reserve. After the first Gulf War, I established myself in Arkansas."

In the meantime, he raised seven children. Today, he’s watching them spread their wings across the globe – from the Midwest to Taiwan. Dr. Padilla, however, is right at home in Lebanon. “I bought a house and brought along my two dogs,” he said. “I’ll be here until I retire.”

When he’s not in the office, you’ll likely find Dr. Padilla horseback riding or canoeing. “But my biggest hobby is meeting people and helping them get back to living their best lives,” Dr. Padilla said, proudly. “When you combine that with this incredible team I’ve been working alongside, that’s quite a good recipe.”
