Sally Adams’ new job at Mercy Clinic Family Medicine – Mountain Grove is very fitting. The family nurse practitioner, who has raised 11 children, also has a rich history of working in health care. She joined the Mercy team on Feb. 15.
“Before that, I spent more than two decades as a chiropractic physician in Mississippi,” Adams said. “Unfortunately, I was in an accident and wasn’t able to do the physical parts of that job. I love working with people so much, it was sad; but I had an ‘aha moment’ and found a way to still be around them.”
So Adams went back to school, receiving her bachelor’s in nursing from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She went on to get her master’s in nursing, family nurse practitioner, from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
“I’m now able to see patients of all ages – children, teenagers, young adults to seniors,” Adams said. “Since I’ve been here at Mercy, everyone has welcomed me and been so nice. And I brought along my husband and 9-year-old son, Carter, who is really enjoying the new scenery.”
A daughter of an Air Force veteran, Adams had her share of adjusting to new communities. “We moved quite a bit and I made a lot of friends and still keep in touch with many of them. Before my recent move to Mountain Grove, my husband and I listed out the states we’d enjoy living in, and Missouri ranked high.”
Adams and her husband plan to settle down in the area, with hopes to launch an organic farm, much like their previous one back in Mississippi.
“I like to practice what I preach,” Adams said. “It’s so important to eat well and also have hobbies that make your life whole, so it’s really a win-win for us.” Aside from gardening and raising food, the Adams family enjoys hiking and canoeing in the Ozarks outdoors.
“It’s our new home and we can’t wait to become a bigger part of the community here,” Adams said. “And I can’t wait for my other, now-adult children to visit and see what they’re missing!”
