Mercy’s team of eye specialists in Rolla is growing. Optometrist Angela Appleman joined Mercy Clinic Eye Specialists – Optometry – Rolla in late June.
“I absolutely love helping people see. It’s also great to be back in the Midwest with my husband and two young boys, who love the Ozarks,” Appleman said. “You could say vision is a family affair for us. My husband happens to be chief of optometry and ENT at Fort Leonard Wood.”
Appleman, who grew up in northern Illinois, graduated with a bachelor’s in biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana – Champaign. She later earned her doctor of optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago in 2008.
“From there, I worked at a private practice in Georgia for five years, followed by a year in San Antonio, Texas,” Appleman said. “My husband completed his fellowship at Mayo Clinic, so I worked as an independent optometrist at an optical shop in Rochester, Minnesota during that time.”
Today, Appleman provides primary care optometry for all ages – including yearly eye exams, diabetic check-ups and treatment for glaucoma, macular degeneration and other ocular diseases.
“It’s important for me to educate patients so they leave with a better understanding of our treatment plans,” Appleman said. “In the short time I’ve been here, everyone has been fantastic and I’m nothing but impressed with the team. I’m really looking forward to my time here.”
