Since 2011, Mercy Kids has hosted a carnival celebration for patients, families and co-workers to honor those helped by the annual Benefit for Mercy Kids trivia night, golf tournament and dinner auction but this year beat all others.
More than 900 people flooded St. John’s Plaza at Mercy Children’s Hospital to play tradition carnival games such as ring toss, plush pig races, duck pond along with a cake walk and other activities. In addition, favorite friends including Ronald McDonald, St. Louis Blues’ Louie, St. Louis Cardinals’ Fredbird, Star Wars, Looney Toons and princesses interacted with the crowd and posed for pictures.
The carnival events are planned by Mercy’s teen volunteer group, Teens Learning in the Community (TLC). TLC combines education and service by offering high school and college-age students, 16 years and older, interested in a health care career an opportunity to learn more about different options in the field. It fosters a commitment to volunteering, offers valuable insight into a variety of health care professions and experience in multiple areas of the hospital.
Cirque de Soleil donated tickets to its upcoming OvO show coming to Chaifitz Arena on Aug. 3.
