Sports Stars Cheer on Patients

August 17, 2016
Some lucky Mercy Kids patients recently received special visits from St. Louis sports stars.

St. Louis Cardinals' second baseman Jedd Gyorko and his wife, Karley, visited kids at Mercy Children’s Hospital and Cardinals Kids Cancer Center on Tuesday. Gyorko autographed Cardinals teddy bears from Build-A-Bear and hats and balls from excited patients – and posed for numerous pictures. Both spent lots of quality time with each patient and brought smiles to many faces.

Four players from the St. Louis Football Club (FC) also visited pediatric patients at Mercy Children’s and in the pediatric emergency department, handing out soccer jerseys, balls and free tickets to families. Defender AJ Cochran, forward Mike Ambersley, midfielder Brandon Barklage and goalkeeper Ryan Thompson visited kids and parents (many of whom were huge soccer fans), and happily
gowned up to visit isolation patients in pediatric intensive care unit. They also cheered up many kids in the ED awaiting treatment.
